History

The Saint Cloud Golf Club is located on the Buzeneval estate, that BOZON V, the Duke of Burgundy founded around 870 a.d.
The Empress Josephine de BEAUHARNAIS took over this estate between 1805 and 1815, and it also belonged to the Price Napoleon-François-Lucien-Charles MURAT between 1852 and 1868.

A terrible and bloody battle, against the Prussians, called the Buzenval battle, took place here on January 19, 1871. In this battle the famous painter, Henri REGNAULT was killed at the age of 27. A statue of his bust was commissioned to commemorate his memory and can be seen at hole 14, in the Green Course. Maintaining this statue and its upkeep were one of the conditions written into the contract to sell this estate in 1896.

The Saint Cloud Country Club (SCCC,) headed by its founder Henry Cachard, an American lawyer, acquired this estate in 1911.

Founded in 1911, the Saint Cloud Country Club had the objectives of playing golf, tennis, croquet, squash, and polo. The 1924 Olympic Games took place here. [ See ]

Henry Cachard and his executive committee chose the English architect Harry S. COLT to design the golf course that was inaugurated in 1913. A second 18-hole course was completed in 1930.

Cultural Influence of the Club
It was Henry Cachard's wish for about one member out of ten to be of a foreign nationality, so that the Club would be able to keep its openness and cosmopolitan culture. Currently 30 nations are represented in the Club.

Because the Club is close to Paris, and because of the quality of its facilities, many famous people have played on the Saint Cloud Golf Club, including the Duke of Windsor, LÉOPOLD de Belgique, Dwight D. EISENHOWER, Billy GRAHAM, French President François Mitterrand, and HRH Hassan II, King of Morocco. Gina LOLLOBRIGIDA, the actors Bruce Willis, Sean Connery, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and football players Franz Beckenbaurer, and Michel Platini have also been seen on the fairways.

When he won his first victory in the Master's Tournament in Augusta in 1994, José Maria Olasabal came back to France to dispute the Saint Cloud's Perrier trophy in association with S. Ballesteros. At this occasion he became an honorary member of the Club.

The Saint Cloud Golf Club was one of the two French clubs to have been invited to participate in the 250th anniversary of Saint Andrews in 2004.
